Blackberry Fig Smoothie Bowl

Smoothie bowls are a tremendously tasty alternative to oatmeal or granola. None of these options are bad as a quick healthy breakfast, or a midday snack. Granola can be downright tasty, too. I’m not knocking it. However, there is a brightness and a burst of flavor you can get with an energy-boosting smoothie bowl that’s just a little different.

Some would say better.

I’m the first to admit that I am not a huge yogurt fan. But, I really do like smoothie bowls. Maybe it’s the texture, maybe it’s the toppings, something about the cold, creamy deliciousness just works for me.

They can taste amazing and they can be great at getting essential nutrients to your body really fast and in their purest form. Hence, my new recipe for a fig smoothie bowl.

Smoothie bowls always look so fantastic. They are appealing, not only visually, but because we automatically think they are good for us. That assumption can be trouble, though if you consume too many smoothie bowls that are loaded with hidden calories and too much sugar, or unnecessary fats.

While there is a danger in habitually dieting on sugary high-calorie smoothie bowls, that’s no reason to avoid the entire category. This kind of snack or meal has the potential for enormous health benefits. My fig smoothie bowl fits that description.

The key to getting the right thickness in your smoothie bowl (it has to be thicker than a traditional smoothy to support the ingredients and be scoopable with a spoon), is to use frozen solid ingredients to start. Then slowly blend them and be careful not to add any extra liquid. For these fig smoothie bowls, start with frozen bananas to achieve the best result.
