On the southern part of the city of Marrakech is the area known as Agdal. This area has gone through a lot of development lately however it’s not really among any tourist sites. There are several large hotels here, some are all-inclusive and all have swimming pools.
Where is Agdal?
Located in the southern district of Marrakech on the road to Ourika and south. The name refers to the Agdal Gardens that are part of the royal palace.
What else is in this neighborhood?
Not a lot to see when it comes to tourist sites. There is a shopping mall here; Al Mazar Mall that has several shops and a large Carrefour grocery store. Nearby the mall is the Megarama cinema that shows multiple movies; most all in French or Arabic but sometimes in English.
Across from the shopping center is a playground and walking area that is popular with families in the evenings.
Why choose this area of Marrakech?
The area is still close enough to the medina that you can easily get taxis to and from the areas you want to visit. Here are a few more reasons to choose this area;
- You want an all-inclusive hotel – there are several here.
- You prefer to stay in an actual hotel setting. Most all of the accommodations here are traditional hotels.
- You need accessible accommodations. Many of the hotels here are able to accommodate people who have more limited mobility.
