This month I participated in The Great Food Blogger Cookie Swap hosted by Julie of The Little Kitchen and Lindsay of Love and Olive Oil. What is the great food blogger cookie swap you ask? In November there was a call out for bloggers interested in participating. Each participant would then receive three names and addresses to send a dozen cookies to. In return each participant receives three different kinds of cookies. Really that’s it! Oh and the cookies you send have to be a new recipe to your blog (but could be adapted from a cookie published elsewhere just credited). So of course I had to make a Moroccan cookie. I decided to make briouats because all of my American family loves them. There are a lot of Moroccan cookies they don’t enjoy as much but this one is a win every time.
First, here are the cookies I received.
Pizelles from Brenna at Ingredients of a 20something were in the first box I received. I have to say this first box had the biggest effect on me. My great grandma used to make hundreds of pizelles at Christmastime. Even though my mom and grandma have made them since then, having these show up at my doorstep was a little bit like having my grandma stop by to say hello. The last two sets came the same day. I opened a box first from Nadia of Cooking My Way to Healthy. Inside were Cranberry Date Chews. Much different than “normal” cookies for this time of year, but since I adore dates I was more than happy to dig in! These immediately were noted in my Ramadan notebook for next year as a nice change of pace from just dates and a nice item for an iftar table.
Last were these walnut cream cheese cookies, based off of a Martha Stewart recipe. I’m sorry I don’t have the link to the blog owner who sent these but I haven’t been able to find her! Hopefully once all of the blog posts are up and noted I will be able to leave some love here. These were really good. I don’t normally like crunchy cookies but I really have been enjoying these with hot chocolate.
Now it’s time for my recipe. Instead of opting for my normal recipe directions – I’ve made a video! Pardon the slight wobbling – I was filming with one hand and using the other to complete the steps.
After forming the cookies, drop into hot oil until brown and then transfer to the warm honey. After 1-2 minutes remove from honey and place on the drying rack. Sprinkle with sesame seeds before honey hardens.

the Briouats were amazing!! I got mine on Friday night and realized the package on the doorstep as we were leaving for dinner…pretty sure my fiance and I ate 3 each on the way to the restaurant. WOW. Thank you so much
