I am not much of a baker. I’ve admitted it several times and never claim to be good at it. Sure I can whip up a pan of brownies or some cupcakes, but I’m not very inventive. I do really love to look at blogs who feature baked goods. It’s mostly just out of envy. Gingerbread Bagels is one of my favorites! Lindsey has a really fun style and she makes things that a) taste awesome – I know because I’ve made several b) are easy and straightforward c) have simple ingredients. Everything is gorgeous and you will want to just take a big bite out of your screen.

Tell me a little bit about your blog and what you write about.
My blog is called Gingerbread Bagels and it’s full of decadent desserts. Everything I make is basically a pure sugar high full of lots of sugar (of course) and lots of butter. My dessert are sometimes somewhat normal, sometimes crazy, sometimes insane but always lots of fun.
Why did you start blogging?
I spent a lot of my time decorating cakes and creating recipes but it felt lonely not sharing it with other people. By starting my blog I wanted to share my recipes with the world, teach others how to bake, to encourage people to get into the kitchen, to be creative and to most importantly have fun with baking. Not to mention I needed an outlet for all of my crazy baking ideas.
Who or what influences you in the kitchen today?
Everything…mainly simple things. Ice cream flavors, colors, candy bars, Sometimes I’ll just think of a color and create a dessert based on the color. Or I’ll think of an ice cream flavor and develop a dessert (not ice cream) based on that flavor.
What is your favorite ingredient?
Butter. I would die without butter. Well not really die but I can’t imagine my refrigerate without a couple pounds of butter.
Everyone has a favorite recipe that we just can’t re-create the same way as our mom, grandma etc. Which recipe is this for you?
My grandmas and my mom can’t cook or bake to save their life so they don’t have any recipes that I’d want to recreate, haha.
Who is your favorite “famous/celebrity” chef and why?
Ina Garten. I’ve always loved to cook and bake but she really inspired me to bake even more and learn about the science behind baking. (Yes I am a total science nerd) Ina’s recipes have never failed me and every single recipe of her’s makes my eyes roll into the back of my head. She always adds that something extra to to a recipe that sets her recipes apart from other recipes out there.
Which of your recipes is your favorite?
Black Magic Cake with Mocha Buttercream. Chocolate cake is my absolute favorite dessert, I love coffee and cake decorating is a huge passion of mine. This post combined everything that I personally love.
What was your least successful recipe attempt?
I can’t think of the least successful but it was a disaster when I made frosting over the stove. The stove caught on fire, I burnt the table with the saucepan and I burnt the carpet. The frosting was really good but I had trouble recreating it exactly so it didn’t make it onto my blog. Maybe one day…if I don’t burn down my kitchen.
Which kitchen tool couldn’t you live without?
My kitchenaid stand mixer. I use it for almost everything from cakes to bread. I can’t imagine baking without one, it makes the process so much easier and faster!
Last meal. What would yours be?
My favorite cake from a local bakery. A chocolate cake with chocolate mousse filling, chocolate buttercream and chocolate ganache. I’m drooling just thinking about it.
Anything else you’d like to add/share!
Don’t stress out while baking, it’s supposed to be fun. The more fun you have, the easier things will be. (I think I should heed her advice!)
