Taken in the Souq’s of Marrakech. I love the mix of artifacts.

Moroccan salads are so important to the dinner table. One of the easiest, is this tomato and onion salad. It’s always on the table if there is fish being served and you’re likely to find it in regular rotation with many other meals as well. It may become a new favorite after you give it [...]

I love scouring the condiment aisle at any market I find myself in. When traveling it’s one of the most interesting aisles to explore. You can learn so much about people and their food culture. I never knew mayonnaise was so easy to make! As part of my preparation to move to Morocco, I’ve been [...]

The tajine is a Moroccan slow-cooker. It’s an ancient cooking pot originally used by the indigenous Berbers of North Africa. It is not only the word used to describe the cooking vessel but the meal contained inside. Braniya happens to be one of MarocBaba’s favorite meals, though it was only this year that he “remembered.” [...]

Morocco isn’t known for it’s coffee culture but I’ve found the “coffee culture” inside of many Moroccan homes to be my favorite part of the day. Arabica coffee sometimes mixed with spices and sometimes alone is brewed thick and served with plenty of sweet, whole milk. In honor of Mother’s Day in the United States [...]

If you asked my mom, she would probably tell you I wasn’t a very adventurous eater when I was a child. I liked all of the things every other Midwestern child liked. Beautiful photo!
Kinda looks like the contents of one of my grandparents’ display shelves.
Next time I’m your way I’m coming to visit grandma and grandpa – they sound like my kind of folks!
How fun! I love to explore the souqs wherever I go. My husband is from Saudi Arabia so I have been there, Bahrain, Kuwait and UEA. Each one has its own way but yet they are somewhat the same. We hope to someday travel to Morocco as my best friend is married to a Moroccan and when we are all together we cook tagines, couscous…you name it. I really love the Moroccan culture and love to read your stories and look at your pictures. Great site! We are on our way in a few months to go overseas to visit family and now you have me itching to go to the souq…lol.
How exciting! I’ve never been to the Gulf but someday – and of course shopping will be high on the to-do list. So glad you are enjoying the site, I’ll be sharing a LOT more pictures and stories from our recent trip in the coming weeks.
Thanks for posting. What a gorgeous Menorah is gorgeous. I have never been to Morocco but many people I know have been and love it there. I do though cook Moroccan cuisine:).
