I’m stuck inside today, a blizzard is raging outside and so I’m planning on a full day of baking, cleaning and movie watching. I’ve been meaning to put up some of my favorite resources and products if you’re searching for the perfect holiday gift for loved ones. This year I’ve decided to give cookies to everyone on my list. So the next two weeks are going to be full of baking. Sadly I did not stock up on baking supplies before the blizzard hit us
First – stop by these two sites to pick up some great recipes for the season. The WI Milk Marketing Board has a nice holiday treat book for free! If you’re looking for help planning your holiday meal you have to pick up the Once a Month Mom holiday cookbook. It’s really a great resource!
Sony Digital Reader Touch Edition (PRS600BC) with 6″ Touch Screen – Black
You will need something to read an ebook on. (Although you can read them on any computer!). I love my Sony eReader and now am always with reading material. The best part of the Sony Reader is that you can upload any kind of file including sound files! PDF’s, Word Documents and Powerpoints all upload and read seamlessly.
The Gourmet Cookie Book: The Single Best Recipe from Each Year 1941-2009 I heard an interview on WPR (Wisconsin Public Radio) with the editor of this cookbook and as she was sharing some favorite recipes I got very nostalgic. If you are a baker and a cookie baker specifically you need to grab this book! Think how cute it would be wrapped up with a tin of cookies made of a recipe from the book!
Baked Explorations: Classic American Desserts Reinvented I am generally not a baker as I am not very good with measuring and being precise. Even coming up with measurements for some of my recipes is difficult because of this. I usually add whatever sounds good! This cookbook is high on my wishlist however!
Around My French Table: More Than 300 Recipes from My Home to Yours You’ve seen me posting links to this book for a few weeks as I participate in French Fridays with Dorie. This is a hefty book but the recipes and pictures are fabulous and easy. If you’re a fan of Mastering the Art of French Cooking, from Julia Child do yourself a favor and get this book! It’s great for the beginning cook and for the advanced. I love it because it really teaches technique through the recipes. Once you’ve got the technique you can replicate it easily in other dishes!
Mediterranean Clay Pot Cooking: Traditional and Modern Recipes to Savor and Share I am a huge fan of Paula Wolfert having first been given her Couscous and Other Good Food from Morocco cookbook several years ago when I first began experimenting with Moroccan cuisine. If you’re a serious cook or interested in using claypots this is a must have cookbook. I think it’s also a great gift for the foodie on your list who has “everything”. Oh and guess what Paula has a new Moroccan cookbook coming out next year!!
I was just posting a few days ago about pressure cookers and I came across this 4qt size on Amazon. If you’re doing everyday cooking for a family of 4-6 this size will accomplish almost any job you have. It’s not huge and won’t take up a ton of cupboard space either. I have the Presto 8 qt and it’s great for parties but this is the first time I’ve seen a smaller size. Presto 4-Quart Stainless Steel Pressure Cooker
KitchenAid K45SS Classic 250-Watt 4-1/2-Quart Stand Mixer, White
If you’re making a ton of cookies you’ll want a good mixer. KitchenAid is the premier name in stand mixers and finding this under your tree will make your day! My mixer is 6 years old and works the same it did the day it came out of the box.
These are just a few of my favorite things this holiday season for gifts. What about you? What are you gifting or hoping to receive?
